Leveraged Motion Capture Technology to create a realistic animations. My involvement spanned the entire production process: from conceptualizing the storyboard through production, to texturing and animating the final model.
I Worked on gathering 3D assets, implementing the motion capture data into the 3D Model in Cinema 4D. Worked on the texture in Substance Painter. Created 2d Animations and produced the Stop-Motion sequence of the project.
Motion Capture
Production took place on a green screen. We used tracking points to facilitate the integration of matte paintings and backgrounds, which were created in Unreal Engine.
During production, our role was to capture this movement data. We used a Smart Suite to record the actor's motions, and Unreal Engine allowed us to see a real-time preview of the animation on set.
Leveraging the actor's performance significantly improved our workflow by reducing the amount of animation required from scratch. This approach also contributed to a more natural look for the final animation.
Animation
Once motion capture data was acquired, we imported it into Cinema 4D to animate our pre-rigged robot character.
The animation timing was then matched to the original actor performance, allowing us to seamlessly replace the actor with the 3D model.
A significant portion of my work involved refining the motion capture data. In instances where the capture malfunctioned, I manually adjusted keyframes to ensure a flawless animation.
